Hi, I'm Usoroh.

Backend developer with a background in product management. Currently, a sophomore at Nazarbayev University

What I'm up to

Nov 25 - Dec 1

Final exams week. This explains why I haven't written anything in a while. Will get some rest next week, hopefully.

Took an assesment test in the gym to track my progress. Gained 1.2 kg of muscle mass since October 8th. Body fat is the same at 13%

Nov 4 - Nov 10, 2024

I went to Almaty once again for a friend's wedding. Not gonna lie, it's kind of tiring going back and forth between cities all the time.

Noticed that my endurance in the gym could use some work, so I started taking L-citrulline and creatine daily. I'm happy with the results so far; it's much easier to finish all 4 sets with 12 reps, and the pump is insane.

Oct 28 - Nov 3, 2024

Back in Astana. I have a Calc midterm and a Bus 101 presentation this week, so not much going on.

Built a telegram bot for generating QR codes as a mini-project for the weekend. Here it is: QR Code Creator. One-shotted it in Golang using Claude 3.5 Sonnet and hosted it on my VPS.

Oct 21 - 27, 2024

I'm in Almaty for two birthdays (my grandma's and a friend's) and the 5'nizza concert.

Everything went great, and we had a lot of fun, but damn, I forgot how expensive Almaty is. It feels like I'm spending money every time I take a breath here.

Oct 14 - 20, 2024

Wrote a new blogpost about my experience going back to college.

Signed up for "The Art of Electronics" course at Astana Hub

Overall it's been a chill week. Feeling good about my gym progress, already had 10 training sessions this month, really enjoying it.

Oct 7 - 13, 2024

Last warm days are over in Astana, but it's not a bad thing, just a different vibe. Spent this week working, going to the gym and making financial plans for the next year. The goal for the next 3 months is to pay off all debts and start saving a lot more money. Thankfully, my recent promotion makes this possible without much hassle.

Bought tickets to the 5'Nizza concert in Almaty on 27th of October. My wife and I love their songs, so really looking forward to this.

Sep 30 - Oct 6, 2024

Enjoying my fall break and finishing up a big project at work. I got promoted! Officially a middle backend developer now. This means a 57% pay rise which is sweeeet. Also bought a gym pass, and the gym is just a hundred meters away! It's going to be hard to come up with excuses not to go.

Sep 23 - 29, 2024

Midterm week! The Calculus one went pretty good, much better than in the previous semester. Econ was alright I guess. But Computer Systems and Organization... that one was hellish. I remember fuming over the fact that we had to keep track of the value of every individual variable inside loops during CSCI 151, but this time I had write out literal fucking zeroes and ones in order to not mess something up. It's all fun and games when you have an IDE, but this is a PAPER BASED exam. An incredibly fucking dushniy experience.

Sep 16 - 22, 2024

Preparing for midterms and also VERY busy at work, so not going to write much this week.

Sep 9 - 15, 2024

I'm back in Astana. My main focus now is getting into my routine and normal sleep schedule again, after a few weeks of going back and forth between two cities.

Going to redesign this page a bit to split each week into a separate section.

For those who don't know, I'm learning to play bass. Want to learn how to play "Weight off" by Kaytranda ft. BBNG this week, seems easy enough for a beginner like myself.

Sep 2 - 8, 2024

I'm busy at work, currently laying out the architecture for an upcoming feature. Cannot specify the feature due to NDA, but will talk about it once we ship it to prod. The most recent feature we shipped was a joint project with Kaspi where we gave our (Kolesa.kz) users with approved car loans the ability to schedule an appointment at a car service online. Working on this feature was a huge pain because I rushed the research stage, so we had to change the plan midway. Lesson learned.

Also doing some studying for my uni courses. This semester I'm taking Computer Systems and Organisation (MIPS Assembly enters the chat), Managerial Economics, Business 101, and Calculus (yes, I'm still taking Calc in my sophomore year...). I spent the last week in Almaty and didn't attend any lectures, so I got some catching up to do.

My friend from Moscow is flying to Astana on Thursday. We're going to hang out at my house and fly to Almaty in the evening.

I bought tickets to Yandex Park Live (Sep 6 - 8), finally going to see Die Antwoord live. Also a chance to catch up with friends, it seems like everyone's going.
